Last year, Augusta Canal National Heritage Area (ACNHA) hosted the Find Your Park Festival in honor of the National Park Service’s centennial and its own twenty-year anniversary as a national heritage area. Commemorations are reserved for milestones, but attendees couldn’t wait two decades for the next one. “Everyone asked us to bring it back again,” explained ACNHA executive director Dayton Sherrouse, “but we needed a new name now that the centennial is behind us.” Thus, CanalFEST, a newly recurring celebration of the heritage area. “We hope this event will grow in size and recognition from year to year,” Sherrouse added.
This November 11, visitors will enjoy live music, sports demonstrations, historic trolley tours, bike rodeos and rides alongside the recently completed Mill Village Trail. Kayaks, fishing rods, food trucks and new Subaru vehicles will be on hand as well. “Based on Subaru’s national partnership with NPS last year, we reached out to our local Subaru dealership, Gerald Jones Subaru. We are delighted they’ve come onboard again this year as our presenting sponsor,” said CanalFEST ‘17 organizer Julianna Shurtleff.
This year’s festival attracted more than a dozen cash and in-kind sponsors. Proceeds will go to support activities and projects in the heritage area.
